From generation to generation: how Gen Verde connects with young people

Discover how Gen Verde transforms music into a catalyst for change. A 4,600 km journey of encounters, workshops, and hope that brings young people together through co-creation.

Gen Verde often wonders, as it observes the expressions on the faces of the young people it meets in squares, schools, and theatres around the world, what it is that they are truly seeking in one another. The answer lies not in a speech or a formula, but in that shared heartbeat that transforms a simple concert into an encounter between authentic lives.

In an age marked by ever-widening distances, the group has discovered that art possesses the extraordinary power to become a bridge, allowing people to walk side by side with the younger generations, not as distant guides, but as companions on the journey. Over time, this bond has evolved into a profound exchange, where experience is enriched by fresh enthusiasm and where, together, we learn that every shadow can be pierced by light. Hope, to stay alive, must be passed from hand to hand and from heart to heart across the seasons of life.

From listening to co-creation: a necessary evolution

The bond that unites different generations around the Gen Verde journey is a subtle yet extremely strong thread, which over the years has matured into a form of shared leadership. It is no longer just a band performing on stage, but rather a horizontal encounter where the key word is co-creation. This process begins at the heart of the concert, where the beat of the music becomes a common language, and develops further through artistic workshops: safe spaces where young people are not spectators, but active participants.

It is in these art workshops that Gen Verde offers itself as a travelling companion for a brief stretch of life, walking alongside young people who often face invisible yet crushing barriers: the feeling of isolation, the fear of an uncertain future, and above all, the tendency to underestimate themselves and their potential. Through creating art together, these defences are softened. The band shares tools to rediscover one’s own inner beauty, transforming fragility into a collective strength. In this synergy, the group’s history and the young people’s enthusiasm merge, demonstrating that no one is too small to contribute to a greater work.

Diary of a European tour: 4,600 km of encounters and hope

In 2022, this spirit of exchange led Gen Verde to travel 4,600 km across Germany, Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. It was a month of pure emotion, spent in eight cities that became our home. One of the most significant moments took place at Vechta prison, where playing for 70 female inmates served as a reminder that music knows no barriers. In that context, all barriers fell away to make room for a deep and vibrant sense of ‘us’.

In Poland and Slovakia, very close to the Ukrainian border, the band came face to face with resilience. Through the Start Now Workshop Project, hundreds of young people of various nationalities chose to let their inner light shine despite the surrounding darkness. When the notes of “We Choose Peace” rang out, it was not just a song, but a collective commitment capable of uniting the entire audience. The tour concluded in the Czech Republic, where moments of dialogue and artistic workshops sealed a month of unforgettable human connections.

Art as a bridge: when experience meets enthusiasm

Art proves to be the ideal bridge, enabling those with decades of international experience to connect with those who are currently finding their own way. In this shared space, vulnerability becomes an extraordinary force for communication. Gen Verde chooses to present itself as a genuine travelling companion, capable of walking in step alongside young people.

The spark of trust arises at the very moment a young person sees their own truth reflected in a song or in the movement of a workshop. In that instant, the band’s long history is transformed into a living present, becoming a fire fuelled by the courage of young people and the willingness to build the future together. The group’s experience is thus placed at the service of the new generations, offering solid roots onto which youthful enthusiasm can grow new visions and hopes.

Beyond the stage: a network of values that endures over time

The legacy left by these gatherings shines long after the stage lights have gone out. The connection forged continues and is renewed through a network of young people who, inspired by their encounter with Gen Verde, choose to become actively involved in their own communities in building a fairer world. The bond between generations is nourished by the lifeblood of shared ideals: fraternity, resilience, and the firm conviction that peace is a daily endeavour and a real possibility.

Every note and every word becomes a seed that takes root in the lives of those who have taken part, bearing fruit in the form of solidarity and civic engagement. This continuity demonstrates how the harmony experienced during an artistic event can translate into concrete action, capable of transforming reality. The gathering thus becomes a starting point, a driving force that propels us towards the future with the certainty that change arises from the strength of unity and shared hope.
